One Woman Dies When Truck is Submerged in Indiana Floodwaters

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ One woman has died and a second is recovering after authorities in southwestern Indiana pulled them from a truck found submerged in floodwaters near the Ohio River.

Evansville Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jason Cullum says an officer responding to a 911 call spotted one of the women treading water near the truck about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

He and a firefighter pulled her to safety using a rope.

That woman was suffering from hypothermia but managed to tell officials someone else was in the truck. A dive team found the second woman in the truck and performed CPR on her. Police say she died later at an Evansville hospital.

Cullum says the women's truck was found along a flooded road blocked by a barricade and near signs warning motorists of floodwaters.
