EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) – Evansville officials say that testing of the Ohio River there has found only trace amounts of the chemical spill that contaminated the water supply of West Virginia's capital.
The Evansville water utility says that testing Monday morning of the city's intake water from the river measured less than 1 part per billion of the chemical used in coal processing.
Officials had projected the chemical plume from the West Virginia spill would reach the Evansville area early Monday.
The Evansville water utility says it is continuing to perform carbon treatments of the city's drinking water as a precaution.
Some 300,000 people in West Virginia were told not to drink or wash with tap water for several days after the Jan. 9 spill.
