INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A proposal to boost the salary of Indianapolis Mayor-elect Joe Hogsett by $30,000 is being withdrawn.
Democratic Councilwoman Mary Moriarty Adams says she decided to pull the pay increase she proposed last week after hearing “significant concerns'' from both current Mayor Greg Ballard and Hogsett.
Adams had proposed that the City-County Council boost the mayor's pay from its current $95,000, saying it hasn't been increased since 2002 and that Indianapolis is far behind similar cities in pay for elected officials.
The pay raise proposal has faced criticism for being brought up after the Nov. 3 election.
Adams is still proposing a pay increase for council members from the current $11,400 to $16,400.
