INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Gov. Mike Pence says the deaths of two highway construction workers is a tragic reminder of how important it is for motorists to slow down in highway work zones.
Pence said Friday in a statement that he extends his “sincere condolences'' to the families of 49-year-old Kenneth Duerson Jr. of Indianapolis and 24-year-old Coty Demoss of Noblesville.
The two men died Friday morning when a pickup truck crashed into them in a work zone along Interstate 69 northeast of Indianapolis.
Pence says the deadly accident is a reminder that motorists must slow down and pay close attention in highway work zones to prevent accidents and protect highway workers' lives.
The governor says Friday's deaths are the first involving an Indiana Department of Transportation worker or contractor since 2012.
