ADRIAN, MICH. (WOWO) A family member was arrested Monday after police said a hospice patient died following an alleged intentional overdose of medication at a residence in Adrian.
Officers respond to reported disturbance
According to the Adrian Police Department, officers were dispatched to a home around 1:30 p.m. on June 8 for a reported civil dispute involving an unwanted person.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with multiple witnesses and discovered a deceased hospice patient inside the residence according to WTOL.
Investigation leads to arrest
Police said witness statements indicated that the patient had been intentionally given an overdose of medication by a family member, resulting in the patient’s death.
The suspect was located at the scene, taken into custody, and lodged in the Lenawee County Jail on an open murder charge, according to investigators.
Charges under review
Authorities said the suspect’s identity will not be released until after an arraignment is conducted in 2A District Court.
The case has been forwarded to the Lenawee County Prosecutor’s Office for review and a formal charging decision.
No threat to the public
Police emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the community related to the incident.
Investigators are continuing to gather information and are asking anyone with knowledge of the case, or witnesses who have not yet spoken with authorities, to contact Detective Sergeant Kevin Putnam.
