Prosecution to Call Final Witnesses in Home Explosion Trial

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) _ Prosecutors are expected to call their final witnesses in the trial of a man accused of planning the explosion of his live-in girlfriend's house to collect $300,000 in insurance to pay off debt.

Marion County Deputy Prosecutor Denise Robinson said the final witness for the prosecution is expected to be called Wednesday, which marks one month since opening statements.

The prosecution has called more than 150 witnesses and introduced more than 2,100 pieces of evidence in the trial in South Bend of 46-year-old Mark Leonard. He's charged with murder in the deaths of two neighbors, as well as arson, conspiracy to commit arson and conspiracy to commit insurance fraud.

Leonard's attorney, David Shircliff, has told St. Joseph Superior Court Judge John Marnocha the defense could rest by midday Thursday.
