FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): As bitter cold temperatures continue, officials with City Utilities are reminding customers to take steps to protect their pipes and water meters. They suggest the following:

·        Keep garage doors closed as much as possible to protect your water meter.

·        Run a small stream of water, about the size of a pencil lead, to keep water moving through pipes.

·        Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air get to the pipes.
