Road crews bracing for winter storm

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): It’s the calm before the storm.

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect until 4am Sunday for northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio, with anywhere from 3 to 8 inches of snow expected to fall across the WOWO listening area.

Nichole Hacha-Thomas of the Indiana Department of Transportation tells WOWO News road crews are spending today getting the roads ready for tomorrow:

“Our crews have been out since midnight. They’re doing spot-treating and pre-treating (with a salt/water brine) and will be out on full response this Saturday, working in 12-hour shifts until the roads are dry and clear.”

Still, you’re being urged to avoid traveling this weekend if possible.

She also points out that INDOT only takes care of numbered state and federal roadways, like US 30 and Interstate 69. Your city or town will take care of named streets, and your county is responsible for rural county roads.
