Shutdown Not Hurting Contractors at Crane Center

CRANE, Ind. (AP) – Defense contractors working with southern Indiana's Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center say they've not seen much impact from the partial federal government shutdown.

Crane Technology Park director Don Schulte says he doesn't know of any contractors there who've had to stop projects because of the shutdown that started last week.

Schulte tells The Herald-Times that contractors could face problems if an extended shutdown causes delays in receiving payments or in decisions being made on new contracts.

Navy spokesman Ken Cronk says a small number of the more than 4,000 civilian workers at the base southwest of Bloomington were furloughed by the shutdown but were recalled over the weekend.
