TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) _ Indiana State Police say they're investigating after a Terre Haute city police officer shot and wounded a suspect.

State police say Terre Haute Police Department officers were sent to a domestic dispute call involving a gunshot at about 1 a.m. on Tuesday. Police say the officer heard loud arguing when he arrived at the scene and was confronted by the suspect on the home's porch.

Authorities say the suspect had a revolver and the officer fired and struck the suspect when the suspect refused to drop the weapon.

The suspect was taken to a Terre Haute hospital and then airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital in serious condition.

The name of the officer wasn't immediately released. State police said their investigation continues.
