UPDATED: Train hits oversize load in Butler, forces seven-hour road closure

DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO) – An oversized load, traveling from Ohio to Illinois under escort by the Indiana State Police, was hit by a freight train on the east side of Butler Wednesday morning, causing a seven-hour road closure.

It happened at about 8:30am when the load was on the railroad crossing on East Main Street near Eastside High School. The 368,000-pound load was halfway across when the crossing’s lights came on and arms came down, trapping the load as a train came around a curve and hit the rear of the trailer.

The train received significant front-end damage but was able to get to its final destination in Canada after the scene was cleared by police. Nobody was hurt.
