GRANT COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO) – An Indiana State Trooper was injured in a crash that happened Tuesday morning in Grant County.
State Police believe Trooper Weston Shanks was going westbound on State Road 22 at around 9 am near a county road in his department-issued Dodge Charger and rear-ended a Ford F-450 that was pulling a utility trailer.
“The Charger traveled off the south side of the road and came to a final rest in the ditch,” said State Police Sergeant Steven Glass.
Glass says they are trying to figure out what made Trooper Shanks rear-end the trailer.
“Trooper Shanks is a 13-year state police veteran. He was transported to Lutheran Hospital by air ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries,” said Glass.
The driver of the Ford F-450 has been identified as 44-year-old Beau Jaqua of Indianapolis.
“Mr. Jaqua did not sustain any injuries,” said Glass.
The preliminary crash investigation has been conducted by Master Trooper Bryan Rumple. He was assisted by members of the Indiana State Police Peru Post, Indiana State Police Fort Wayne Post, Indiana State Police Pendleton Post, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Gas City Police Department, Gas City Fire Department, Grant County EMS, Grant County EMA, Swayzee Towing, and Lutheran Air.
