U.S. Senator Coats Upset With Paul Over Patriot Act Expiration

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WOWO): Retiring Indiana U.S. Senator Dan Coats is speaking out over the defeat of the Patriot Act.

Coats appeared on CNN Monday to talk about what he feels is misinformation about the NSA's spying program.

He feels Kentucky Republican Senator Rand Paul, who led a charge to have the Patriot Act expire Sunday, should have attended a Senate meeting laying out what the Patriot Act actually does. “I simply said that, as we make decisions in terms of how we go forward protecting people's liberties and also protecting our people from injury and harm, we need to understand what this program is and what it isn't.”

Politico claimed that Coats accused Paul of “lying” in order to help his Presidential campaign, which Coats denied on CNN Monday.
