Update on 2nd Suspicious Package Found in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A woman brought fireworks into a federal government building in downtown Indianapolis and forced the evacuation of the building’s tenants, including a day care.

Police say 39-year-old Christine Dennison of Indianapolis placed a cardboard tube on an X-ray machine’s belt as she passed through security. A guard concerned that the device was an explosive alerted police.

An Indianapolis police bomb squad officer examined the device and rendered it safe.

Dennison was held for questioning. The incident forced the evacuation of the building and closure of nearby streets.

The item was the second suspicious package found at an Indianapolis federal building in less than 24 hours. Police detonated a backpack left along a sidewalk outside the federal courthouse early Monday.

Police say that bag contained fireworks and drug paraphernalia.
