Warning Issued for Lake-Effect Snow in N. Indiana

LAPORTE, Ind. (AP): Snow has started falling in parts of northern Indiana, with up to a foot of lake-effect snow possible on one of the year's busiest travel days.

The National Weather Service has issued a heavy snow warning for northern Indiana's LaPorte, St. Joseph, Starke and Marshall counties through Wednesday night. The snow's coming as winds around 20 mph are blowing off Lake Michigan.

No significant travel troubles were reported Wednesday morning, but several school districts in the area delayed openings.

The weather service is warning drivers to watch for hazardous conditions on the Indiana Toll Road, Interstate 94 and U.S. 30.
