Winter Storm Delays Child Neglect Trial In South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) _ A winter storm that brought as much as 19 inches of snow to northern Indiana has delayed a South Bend child neglect trial.

WNDU-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1z5ABau ) jurors won't report Monday in the trial of 33-year-old Purvi Patel. The Granger woman is charged with feticide and neglect of a dependent resulting in death.

Patel was seven months pregnant when authorities allege that she took drugs to end her pregnancy, but the baby was born alive.

The infant's body was found outside a Mishawaka restaurant in July 2013.

Jurors are to report Tuesday at 10 a.m. That's when closing arguments are expected.
