FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A woman is currently in the hospital after being beaten with a hammer by a man who broke into her home.

According to our partners in news at 21 Alive, it happened early Thursday morning just after 4:30 a.m. in the Southwood Park neighborhood on Pasadena Drive.

Neighbors told 21 Alive, that the woman is in intensive care as a result of swelling in her head and that the injuries are not life-threatening.

Police are currently investigating and have alerted residents.
