2 Indiana Women Mauled By Pack Of Dogs, 1 Critically Injured

CUTLER, Ind. (AP) _ Northern Indiana police say two women jogging in a rural area were chased and mauled by a pack of dogs.

A 20-year-old woman was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital in critical condition following Thursday night's attack. Her 19-year-old companion was taken to another hospital, but the extent of her injuries wasn't immediately known.

Carroll County Sheriff Tobe Leazenby tells WLFI-TV (http://bit.ly/1j4lry9 ) the women were jogging near the town of Cutler, about 40 miles northwest of Indianapolis, when they passed a residence and four pit bulls chased them into a field and attacked.

Leazenby says the dogs' 50-year-old owner was also attacked when he tried to restrain the animals.

He says a motorist who saw the women's plight drove into the field and the women climbed into the car.
