FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): There were twice as many murders in Allen County in 2015 as there were in 2014.
More bad news is a majority of the ones committed in 2015 are unsolved. Thirty people were killed in Allen County in 2015, starting with a 34-year-old man on January 21st, but only 8 of those cases saw an arrest. Police Chief Garry Hamilton tells the Journal Gazette only 16 people were killed in 2014, and he believes the year-to-year spike may be drug related, as some of those cases look like drug deals gone bad. Others are seemingly gang-related.
If there's any good news in this story, it's that the 2015 numbers don't touch 2013's murder tally of 45… but that's little consolation as police try to rein in the violence.
