FORT WAYNE (AP): Hotels and motels around Fort Wayne will face new health and safety standards under an ordinance being considered by local officials.

Fort Wayne-Allen County health administrator Mindy Waldron says complaints about the hotels have increased in recent years, with about 40 complaints being made last year. The largest number of complaints have involved bedbugs and other pests, structural damage and stained or damaged mattresses.

Visit Fort Wayne CEO Dan O'Connell says the hotel standards need addressed because of several negative reviews on Internet travel sites.

The proposed ordinance would require annual inspections, with each site being graded based on the number of violations.
