Thousands Without Power after Latest Indiana Storms

PORTAGE, Ind. (AP) _ Thousands of northern Indiana electricity customers still have no service after strong thunderstorms caused scattered damage.
 
Major utility companies reported more than 6,600 outages remained Monday afternoon in northern Indiana. Most were in Lake, Porter, LaPorte and Elkhart counties.
 
The National Weather Service reported wind and hail damage was concentrated Sunday in the state's northwest corner. It recorded a 78 mph wind gust at the Gary airport as numerous trees were blown down in the area. 
 
The weather service reports the traffic control tower at Evansville Regional Airport was briefly evacuated Sunday afternoon after staff there recorded an 89 mph wind gust. 
 
Meanwhile, Vectren says about 50 outages remained in the Evansville area from a Friday storm that caused some 50,000 outages amid widespread damage.
