FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Allen County SPCA’s first “Clear the Shelters” effort looks like a success.

The shelter participated in Petco’s annual initiative for the first time Saturday, staying open four additional hours Saturday and offering cat and kitten adoptions for free, motivated in part by an overcrowding problem.

According to our partners in news at 21Alive, that seemed to do the trick, as 51 pets were adopted. The shelter’s goal was 50.

Adoption fees for some dogs were also lowered. All pets were microchipped and spayed or neutered.
