Angola Man Taken into Custody After Acting Suspiciously in Bank

ANGOLA, Ind. (WOWO): Around 3:00 p.m. Friday, the Steuben County Sheriff's Office and Angola Police Department received reports of an incident at the Wells Fargo Bank on North Wayne Street in Angola. Initial reports indicated that a man entered the bank and made attempts to secure the front doors with a chain device. 

The male subject, later identified as 52-year-old Kurt Hennig, made told those inside the bank that he wanted to speak to the FBI. Hennig was carrying an object that was later discovered to contain powdery and liquid items of unknown origin. 

Once officers arrived to the scene, they took Hennig into custody without incident. It was unknown as to why Hennig carried powdery and liquid items into the bank. 

The Fort Wayne Bomb Squad, Fort Wayne Fire Department EOD and the Angola Fire Department was called in to assist with the gathering, securing and identifying the unknown substances. It was later determined to be items that were not explosive or dangerous.

Hennig was taken to the Steuben County Jail and was preliminarily charged with a class A misdemeanor of criminal Trespassing. He is currently held at the Steuben County jail on a $2,500.00 bond. The case remains under investigation.
