AUBURN, Ind. (WOWO): The Nation pauses to  remember the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

In Auburn, at Fire Station 2, a thick, steel beam, is bent like a hair pin. It's one of many remains of the World Trade Center that serve as reminder around the U.S..

Auburn Fire Chief Mike Van Zile sees it every day. He says its a permanent reminder that never loses meaning to him.

He says as crushing as the terrorist attacks were, he never felt a sense of defeat. He adds its changed the face of public safety and how fire fighters and police respond to crisis.

The memorial is open to the public every day, at the fire station near Grandstaff and 15th Street.
