Better Business Bureau warns of vets charity scams

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): This Memorial Day, be careful what charities you give to.

The Better Business Bureau of Fort Wayne tells our Partners in News at 21Alive many times people will donate to a veteran’s charity without knowing how much of their donation actually goes to helping vets.

The BBB’s Serving Indiana President and CEO Marjorie Stephens says you should ask for printed documentation on how much of donations are used for program services versus management expenses.

You should also donate directly to a charity as opposed to going through the mail or over the phone, and you can always check out the charity at the BBB’s charity report website.
