Braun: Trump declaration a “slippery slope”

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): President Trump last week declared a national emergency at the US-Mexico border in a bid to get money for a southern border wall.

It’s a move that many have called a “slippery slope,” after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said a Democratic president could do the same thing with guns or healthcare.

Republican Indiana US Senator Mike Braun tells WOWO News that while he wasn’t a fan of the move, it was the only play Trump could make:

“I think it is a slippery slope,” he tells Fort Wayne’s Morning News host Kayla Blakeslee. “I think the President was backed into a corner on this by the Democrats, who were all until very recently were interested in doing more on border security.”

Sixteen states, including neighboring Michigan and Illinois, have sued, saying the President’s order is unconstitutional.
