INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ The former director of the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee has been accused of stealing more than $96,000 of the community group's money.
Matthew Hendrix was arrested Thursday on charges of forgery and theft.
The Marion County prosecutor's office says Hendrix was fired from his position in March after a personal expense of more than $5,000 was reported on the organization's business credit card account. Prosecutors suspect Hendrix paid fictitious vendors out of various program funds.
Hendrix's attorney, Jim Voyles, declined comment to The Associated Press.
Prosecutors believe Hendrix took money intended for programs such as the Mayor's Celebration of Diversity Awards Program, Indy's Campaign for Financial Fitness and the Office of Education Innovation.
Hendrix has been director of the group since 2009.
