Coroner identifies Wednesday night shooting victim

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Allen County Coroner has identified a man who was killed in a shooting Wednesday night.

22-year-old Devonte Lamont Jones is the 44th homicide in Allen County this year. The Allen County Coroner’s Office said he died from a gunshot wound of the chest.

He was found down in the pavilion of Weisser Park just before 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27.

It was the first of two shootings that night: an hour later, police were called to the parking lot of a hotel on Goshen Road and found 21-year-old Spenicer Ballard suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He’s in critical condition at an area hospital.

Police are currently searching for witnesses in both cases. It’s currently unknown if the shootings are related.
