The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office responded Friday afternoon to a serious crash south of Garrett.

Investigators say a car traveling north on County Road 327 crossed the centerline, left the roadway, struck a utility pole, and rolled into a ditch.

The driver, identified as 46-year-old Michael Gongaware of Fort Wayne, reportedly could not remember the crash.

Authorities say he suffered a head injury and spinal fracture before being transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
