Dwenger students raise $2,000 for football rivals

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Catholic high school in Fort Wayne has raised money for its state football championship rivals in Evansville.

The Bishop Dwenger Saints beat Evansville Central for the state championship back in November in the longest title game in Indiana football history, but the Journal Gazette reports that the school learned that two of Evansville Central’s players were homeless and had been taken in by teammates, so the Saints stepped up.

This past Monday the team donated $2,000 to their opponents, raised from private donations and proceeds from the school’s “spirit shop.”

Dwenger linebacker T.J. McGarry also donated $500, which was half of an award he received after the season.
