Fort Wayne Drumming Group Builds Skills in Japan

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) _ Four members of a Fort Wayne drumming group say they've gained valuable skills and friendships after traveling to Japan to study their craft.

The members of the Fort Wayne Taiko group traveled in June and July to train with taiko experts. The traditional Japanese art blends music and movement together in performances.

The Indiana drummers will perform one song they learned in Japan during a concert Sunday at the University of Saint Francis.

Group director Allison Ballard says the show will offer the group a chance to demonstrate its talent in a theater setting.

Taiko means big drum. The Fort Wayne group is affiliated with Fort Wayne Dance Collective.
