FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO):

One person is dead following a collision between a car and a pedestrian on the city’s northeast side that happened last night just after 8-PM. Fort Wayne Police say the crash happened near East State Boulevard and Hobson road when a pedestrian who was using a walker as a makeshift wheelchair attempted to cross State Boulevard in an unlit area – outside of any designated crosswalk.

A motorist was unable to stop in time – Officials say the pedestrian died later at the hospital. Speed and impairment were not factors in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
