Funding compromise reached on Landing streetscape project

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A streetscaping project that uses Legacy Funding for The Landing will still be funded by taxpayers; it’ll just come from a different pocket now.

The Fort Wayne City Council last night approved a compromise deal between Mayor Tom Henry and Councilman Russ Jehl that would see the $1.4-million project funded by the Allen County economic development income tax fund.

The Journal Gazette reports Jehl and Councilman Paul Ensley objected to the original plan for the street project, which called for money from the Legacy Fund after the Council had granted $2.4-million from that fund for the Landing project already.

The City will pay back the CEDIT fund using revenue from a tax increment financing district set up there.
