Gary Officer Found Shot in Police Car

GARY, Ind. (AP): Another Indiana police officer has been killed while on duty.


The latest 47-year old Jeffrey Westerfield was found shot dead in his cruiser in Gary.


Early Sunday, a concerned resident tipped off police to a bleeding officer in a car near Roosevelt High School in a residential area in the northwest Indiana city.


Authorities haven't said how many times officer was shot or if there are any suspects or motive.

Westerfield, an 18-year veteran, was working the overnight shift.


Saturday night in Indianapolis, 51-year-old Officer Perry Renn was shot and killed after a gunfire in a alley.
