FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): An elderly woman is safe after being rescued from a house fire Saturday night on the city’s southeast side.

Firefighters responded to the 5200 block of Gaywood Drive and found heavy fire in the attic of the home.

Before crews arrived, neighbors broke a window, entered the home, and carried the woman to safety.

Officials say she was not injured.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department worked to extinguish the blaze, and the cause of the fire has not yet been released.
