Health officials urging Hoosiers to get flu shots now, before the holidays

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): Health officials are urging Hoosiers to get their flu shots now, before this year’s flu season hits.

Steve Williams, immunization specialist with the Fort Wayne – Allen County Department of Health tells WOWO News, as opposed to waiting until winter to get the flu vaccination, you should get one now, so you’re prepared, “The flu shot vaccine… its potency is greatest for about six to seven months. We’re getting into the flu season, get the preventive vaccine on board now, get the antibodies built up so you’re ready for the holiday season. Kids get out of schools and families get together, and a lot of new populations mix and meet.”

He says there are plenty of places to get the shot, including at the Fort Wayne – Allen County Department of Health. They’re open for appointments from 8:00am – 4:00pm Monday through Friday.
