Hospitalized Fort Wayne Police officer focus of charity hockey game

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne Police officer seriously injured on the job early Saturday morning is the focus of a charity hockey game planned for over the weekend.

The Fort Wayne Police Department and the Fort Wayne Fire Department will play each other at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Memorial Coliseum.

Donations will be accepted during the game and will go to veteran officer Boyce Ballinger.

Ballinger is being treated for smoke inhalation after he was called to a domestic dispute involving a house fire Saturday morning.

Officers are taking shifts at the hospital to ensure his family, a longtime girlfriend and two children, are taken care of.
