A new state law will require hospitals to lower their prices to the state average by June 2029 or risk losing their tax-exempt status.

State Senator Travis Holdman is reviewing financial statements from Indiana’s largest hospital systems to ensure they are taking steps to reduce costs.

The nonprofit group Hoosiers for Affordable Healthcare has been advocating for lower healthcare costs and believes hospitals must prioritize providing quality care at lower prices.

Indiana has some of the highest hospital prices in the country.
