INDIANA, (WOWO) — Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter is retiring following a career spanning nearly four decades.

Carter began his career with the Indiana State Police in 1984 – following in his father’s footsteps.

In 2002 – he was elected Sheriff of Hamilton County serving two terms.

Carter was first appointed as Superintendent of the State Police in 2013 by former Governor Mike Pence and was re-appointed by Governor Eric Holcomb.

He led the agency through landmark events such as the Civil unrest of 2020 and the Pandemic.

Carter holds the record as the longest-serving Superintendent – at 12 years.
