Indianapolis Man Sentenced in Gun Dealer’ s Robbery, Death

NEW ALBANY, Ind. (AP) _ A judge has sentenced an Indianapolis man to 60 years in prison for his role in robbery and slaying of a southern Indiana gun dealer.

U. S. District Judge Sarah Evans Barker sentenced 25-year-old Darryl Worthen on Monday in connection with the September 2014 death of 61-year-old Scott Maxie at his North Vernon shop, about 50 miles south of Indianapolis.

Worthen was convicted of robbery, conspiracy and discharging a firearm during a crime resulting in death.

Worthen's brother, Dejuan, and his cousin, Darion Harris, await trial on similar charges in connection with the robbery.

Prosecutors say Darryl Worthen shot and killed Maxey with a handgun, then the three stole firearms from the gun shop, returned to Indianapolis and sold some of the weapons while keeping some for themselves.
