Longtime Fort Wayne camera shop to close

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne camera shop that has become a local landmark is calling it quits after almost nine decades in business.

The Sunny Schick Camera Shop is closed today as it prepares to launch a store closing sale tomorrow. Majority owner Bill Christie tells the News-Sentinel it’s time for him to step down after running the store for 37 of those nearly 90 years, and he feels it’s had “a good, long run.”

Six full-time employees and two part-time workers will be affected by the move.

The shop on West Washington Blvd. started out selling movie-making equipment on a mail-order basis in the 1920s, before moving into everything camera-related.
