BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Authorities have filed preliminary murder charges against a man in the death of an Indiana University student whose body was found in a rural area not long after she was reported missing.

State Police Sgt. Curt Durnil says 49-year-old Daniel E. Messel, of Bloomington, was arrested Friday in the death of 22-year-old IU senior Hannah N. Wilson. Police have not disclosed a possible motive or said whether Messel and Wilson knew one another.

He is being held at the Brown County Jail.

The Fishers, Indiana woman's body was found Friday afternoon near Lake Lemon in a rural area of Brown County. That county is just east of Monroe County, where IU's campus is located.

An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday.
