Muncie Man Gets 56-Year Sentence in Child’s Death

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) – A judge has sentenced a Muncie man to 56 years in prison, saying he turned a blind eye to his wife's fatal abuse of her young Haitian cousin.

A Delaware County jury convicted 55-year-old Marcus Tabb in October of child neglect and other charges in connection with 5-year-old Marie Pierre's June 2013 death and his wife's beatings of her own younger siblings.

The Star Press reports Judge Thomas Cannon Jr. told Tabb on Monday that he should've protected Marie from the abuse or reported it to authorities.

Tabb didn't make a statement Monday. He testified during his trial that he lived apart from his wife and didn't know what was happening.</span>

Charlene Tabb is serving an 87-year prison sentence for her cousin's death and mistreatment of her siblings.
