Parent involvement important as students go back to school in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The school year starts on Monday at Fort Wayne Community Schools, but not just for students.

Parents have already bought school supplies and new clothes, but their involvement in their child’s education doesn’t stop there.

“The more involved they become, we see better student achievement with their child.” says FWCS’s Director of Family and Community Engagement Faye Williams-Robbins. “I would say getting involved with the PTA is a good idea. When they have events at the school, parents need to make sure they don’t just send their student, but attend with them.”

She also is asking parents to make sure they know which school their child is going to. The district changed some transportation routes in the past year.

This story is the second part of a series on back to school at FWCS.
