Purdue Expert: Winter Thaw Runoff Can Damage Homes

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP): Experts say homeowners can take steps now to prevent water damage to their homes as Indiana's thick snowpack thaws out this week. Ice dams and high snowdrifts can block water runoff. Homeowners can dig a channel to funnel meltwater to a lower grade. But care should be taken not to shift that water into their neighbors' homes.
