Smoke Causes Private Jet to Return to Gary Airport

GARY, Ind. (AP) _ A private jet landed safely at Gary-Chicago International Airport shortly after takeoff when the pilot reported smoke in the cockpit.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Tony Molinaro told The Times of Munster the two-engine British Aerospace HS 125-700A, which can hold eight to 12 passengers, landed Friday without incident. The plane is registered to Nick Popovich, who operates Sage-Popovich Inc., an aircraft services company. He said the plane returned as a precaution and there was no fire.
