Some Schools Postpone Sports Events Amid Heat

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) _ Some Indiana schools postponed athletic events as a precaution while stifling heat continues its hold across the state.

Terre Haute South High School postponed Tuesday's boys home soccer march against Martinsville and a boys tennis match at Sullivan due to the area's heat index of about 100 degrees.

The Tribune-Star reports that the western Indiana school district also postponed all other outdoor practices and activities.

Tuesday's highs reached into the lower 90s in the Terre Haute area, creating heat index levels in the upper 90s to about 100 degrees when combined with high humidity levels.
