Southern Indiana Companies Sue New Albany Over Road Changes

NEW ALBANY, Ind. (AP) _ Eight companies are suing New Albany, alleging that changes made last year to a road in the southern Indiana city have left that roadway dangerously narrow and unsafe.

The suit filed by trucking companies, service companies and manufacturers against the city and state and local officials says the modifications to East Main Street should be considered a public nuisance.

The companies contend the road isn't accessible to some emergency vehicles and allege the city misused maintenance funds to complete the project.

New Albany attorney Shane Gibson calls the lawsuit “absolutely ridiculous'' with little if any merit. Gibson says the city held several public meetings before the changes were made and the plan was altered to include better turn radius for commercial trucks, as well as other changes.
