Woman allegedly set on fire by husband dies

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A woman who was allegedly set on fire by her husband has died.

Lizzie Lee Caldwell, 68 of Fort Wayne, died on Friday in a local hospital. The Allen County Coroner ruled her death a homicide due to respiratory and renal failure from thermal burns. Her death marks the 35th homicide in Allen County this year.

Police responded to a home in the 5600 block of South Harrison Street back on September 12. Our Partners in News at ABC 21 say Lizzie and Eddie Caldwell got into an argument before Eddie went to a gas station, filled up a water bottle with gasoline and poured the bottle on he and his wife.

Lizzie Caldwell was then transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Eddie Caldwell is facing multiple charges, including burglary, arson resulting in serious bodily injury, domestic battery resulting in serious bodily injury and invasion of privacy.
