Woman rescued after falling into St. Marys River Sunday

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO) – A woman was rescued Sunday afternoon after falling into the St. Marys River.

The victim was reportedly walking her two dogs when one of them got stuck in the river, and she tried to save it. The victim then fell waist deep into the water herself, and couldn’t get back out.

Our partners in news at ABC 21 report police were called to the river around 4:30 p.m. by the victim’s mother. Police report the victim had been in the water approximately 20 minutes by the time they were notified.

A neighbor let police use their 4×4 truck to get to the victim, who had drifted about a mile and a half downstream.

She was rescued and taken to a local hospital in serious condition with minor injuries.

Police also report the dogs are fine.

The incident is being investigated by the DNR.
